HELP!! only set of car keys were stolen!

i took my girlfriend to columbus lastnight. someone stold her purse while we was at the BaskinRobbins/Dunkin Donuts. her camaro keys happened to be in there, keyless entry and all, and it happened to be the only set she had. luckily her doors are already unlocked so we can get in the car anyways, but cannot start it, obviously...
what can we do about this? please help
thanks,
Michael.

if she bought the car from a dealer you can get the copies there it should be in their reynolds and reynolds system the door key wont cost you much but the ignition key if its a anit theft key will cost you 25$ so be ready, and she didnt get it from a dealer they can probably help you any way with the rpo codes of the car i think they are on driver door jam, i had this problem once and they helped me out plus i worked at the dealership. this should just before hand call a local chevy dealer and ask for parts, they will be the ones making the keys.

your local GM parts department can cut them for you. you just need the VIN and the registration to the vehicle. they might charge you to run the VIN and get the code prolly bout 10 bucks. then you have a door key for like less than 5 and the ignition key for about 25-40 depending on how nice the guy at the counter is. any dealership can run the code you just need one that can cut te key too.

i called a local dealer and they priced me at $3 on door key, $27on the ignition and $58 on the keyless entry transmitter. i've got extra transmitters from my 94Z28. is there any way i can make these work on my friend's 97 so she don't have to buy a new one?
thanks,
Michael.

Was there any personal information of hers in the purse? If her license was in there the thief has her address.

It is easy to steal a car if you have the keys.

Your insurance company may pay to have the car re-keyed; which would be a smart move.

there's an idea, i can't believe i didn't think of that! yeah her license was in there. i did think of that though and i made it so they couldn't start the car unless they really new what they was doing. plus, her written address is rather confusing so it would take some effort to even find her place.

i tried to use the other transmitters on my own car and cannot get them to program. however, i believe the failure to do so is because these particular transmitters are for my 94 which probably has a different system, the buttons and stuff look different, but i will try to get ahold of some newer ones and give it a try, it should work then.
thanks for the info, it has been very helpful. hopefully i can get her on the road again soon.
thanks again,
Michael.

Right, they changed styles after 96 so you will need a transmitter from 97 or up.

There are plenty of transmitters on E-bay for real cheap. They are pretty much standard throughout GM models and brands so they are easy to come by.

I have heard that the fobs differ from car to car, and that you need the #'s off the back of the fob for it to work with your car, for example mine is a 97 and it reads:
GM 16245100-29
CANADA:218101368
MODEL/FCC ID:AB01502T
Ive looked into this because I only got mine with one fob and I know u can buy them for around 20$ on ebay, but you need to make sure you buy the right one

yes, i've been wondering about the numbers also. maybe someone here can tell us which exact numbers we need to match, like if it's the last 2 digits or something like that.

From what ive heard, and from what ive read on ebay, you have to match up the exact numbers on your current fob with the new one that you are buying.
