Got my new eng in and now I've got a starter problem. When I hit the key you hear a loud tapping sound not a click, arm is being thrown out hitting the flywheel but not turning it over. I put in a new starter same thing. Checked wire coming from key ok and main wire from battery ok. When I pull out the new starter and jump it with the jumpers starter works. I turn engine over by hand ok too. Battery has sat for 2mos or so did a two day charge and use a jumper to try a start too... No luck. I'm going to get a new bat but everything worked before rebuild.

help...there little left it could be. Also did turn over at my shop with a large jump box.

I'm at a loss and just guessing, but have you tried shimming the starter? Is the flexplate the right tooth pattern? <shrug>
