Did you replace the Fuel filter and check all your fuses?

find this connector right next to the pcm and give it power. it is supposed to bypass the relay and fuse supplying direct power to the pump. also try doing a search. there are so many threads on fuel pumps and wiring problems it will take a day to read them all.

A clogged filter will prevent the fuel from pumping. Can you suck water thrue a clogged straw?

If it's not priming, then you probably have a loose connection where you installed the new pump. I've had non-stop issues with my Walbro and the grounds not wanting to make contact at all times. I'm getting ready to pull it back out and solder everything to ensure contact. It'll take me 5-10 min to have the assembly out, if that helps with your perception of the trap door method. A multimeter can be your best friend with issues like this.

Check the voltage to see what's going on... souinds electrical, not a mechanical issue.

Yep, definitely sounds like an electrical issue. Pull the connector and see if it is getting power. You can pretty much eliminate the whole wiring system as being at fault then.

Just a thought, but if it's not priming at all, have you thought about the VATS system being the culprit?? If it's out, the pump won't prime then either.

Also, If I recall the fuse for the pump and everything is on the driverside panel... connected to the PCM fuse or what ever. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
