Help me pick a piston

first of all im to the point of decking the block and figuring out what kind of compression i want to run. im builing a 383 with ported lt1 heads scat 3.750 cast crank. i havnt really decided if im getting 5.7 or 6 rods and then the problem with piston type. im wanting to build a motor that will be safe for a 150 shot and still run on pump gas. i was told one place to keep my compression down to around 10 to 1 other places ive read of people running 12 to 1. What would you guys suggest? Flat, dome etc and what compression ration the motor is already 4.040 and just waiting on me to say how much i want to have taken off for decking.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Can't be answered without involving the cam choice. But if you are talking about pump gas, I assume it's a street car. In that case, assuming you will be picking a streetable cam, you can forget about 12:1. But to decide on the final CR, you need to take the cam into account.

In that case, 12:1 would be too much compression. You want ~10.5:1. You don't need a nitrous specific piston at this level, just a good forged "regular duty" piston. Avoid "lightweight" pistons. As far as sprcific brands, JE/SRP, Diamond, Ross, and others are all good. I mention those three because I am the most familiar with them. I have had good luck with JE, but they are on the high side as far as cost. Avoid light weight wrist pins with N2O, get the standard wrist pin.
