I'm getting the thunder racing kit in a few weeks. You can't really go wrong for the price. If you price out all the parts that kit includes it would cost close to $600 to buy everything separate.

BTW, get 3.73's...

I would buy the kit from Thunderaccing. Also is your car an auto or manual?? If it is a manual than I would go with a 3.73. If it is an auto then I would go with a 3.42

If it is a '93 M6 then I'd go with 3.73's...'94+ M6 I'd go with 4.10's...

If it is an A4 I wouldn't go with anything less than 3.73's...

That is way too much gear if you decide to drive your car everyday.

Could you be a little more specific? What's too much gear? I drive every day to and from class and do about 300-400 miles on the weekends with 3.73's on my A4...no problems at all...

How is something too much gear? Are you talking about the supposed loss in mileage or what?

.

The car is a 97 Auto...The only reason i am thinking on #:42.s instead of 3:73's is because they are stronger gears (so i heard) and with a 3000 stall and Drag Radials i want all the protection i can get for my rear. (and i want to have as much traction as posable)

I do however race mostly from a 50% from a roll and 50% from a dead stop.

I dont think there will be alot of difrence in MPG with the 2

FacelessZ - How much mileage do you get with your 3.73's. I'm talking MPG.

Thanks!

Gears are available in 'hardened' and 'soft'. Whether it is a bigger or smaller ratio doesn't matter...it all depends on how hard you are on them...

Good luck with the 3.42's

With a 2800 stall and 3.73's I get 26-27MPG on the highway and like 16-17 around the city...

Thanks FacelessZ, that's kickass! That's better than what I get now.

I have a m6 '97 Z. From what I researched here, is it safe for me to assume that my stock gears are 3.42's?

I ordered mine from thunderracing. I decided to go with 3.73's because I wanted to waken my car up alot. Also I didn't want to get new gears later down the road if I ordered something lower than 3.73's(unless I get a 12bolt

The reason I say it is way too much gear because most people do not like turning that many rpms on the highway. This comment is more toward an auto tranny. I can say that I use to have a 3.73 in my M6 (M28) and 1st gear was pretty useless.

Thumbs up MY VOTE 3.42'S

Like you i had a 2.73 gear and did alot of searching and asking questions what i should go with.
first off, any gear will improve what you have now, and i have to tell you that my 3.42's rock.

i came to this conclusion, if i was going to take the car to the track every weekend and try to sqeeze out every tenth of a second i could, i would go with the 3.73's.

but this going to be my daily driver and i just want to have fun with her. so i went with the 3.42's, no regerts at all

plus like one member said i don't like reving her high for long periods of time, even though it may do no harm its a mental thing.........

hope this helps. what ever gear you get, you be happy.
