Help! me (idiot) can't get my cigarette lighter fixed on '95 Z28!
As stated, I'm an idiot when it comes to working on my car. I don't know a single thing.
Anyway, my cigarette lighter..thing... came unscrewed and I can't get it screwed back in. How can I get it screwed back in? The part it screws into jiggles around and needs to be held still while I screw it in because the threading won't latch on. Is there a way to easily take off the console plate or something so I can hold the female part still while I screw in the male part? I tried prying a bit with a screw driver but it didn't do a damn thing. Can someone please help me?

You would have to take the retaining screws off of the console in order to lift it so you could get your hand down in there behind the female part.
The three retaining screws are located under the retractable armrest (2) and there's one around the middle. I think you have to take off the panel that surrounds the shifter first. As a matter of fact, you may be able to just take that small panel off.

well the plastic piece that the cig lighter is mounted on just pops right off with a little force then there will be a wiring harness on the back of another metal piece that the MALE piece your refering to screws into
slide the wiring harness off take the plat and both metal pieces and scre them back to gether to make one piece slide the wiring harness back on and pop the plastic plate back in
simple as that itle take you 2 min
and there is no need to take out the entire console the one plate just pops out you could prolly just stick your finger in there and pull it out

I popped the little platic thing open.... Screwed the Female (metal part that is) then I layed a nice coat of my ex g/f's nail polish over where the metal sits on the plastic holder (female lactate? errr Loctite?)
. That was back in ....1998 I think. It hasnt come loose ever since.

the prob with that is that the outer sleeve is not conected to the plastic piece so the iner sleeve wont screw back in
so you gots to take the plastic piece of and then just fix it

Aha! Thanks Fryedclutch, I had no idea you could just pull that piece off! I was trying to pry it with a screwdriver and it was useless! The problem is now fixed! My cell phone can charge, and the cigarette lighter no longer pulls out the entire assembly when I pull it out

I'm sorry SC but I didn't read your method, when I read responses there were only 2, Kurt and FC. Plus your method doesn't work anyway :-p. It is threaded like a lightbulb and you certainly can't push a lightbulb in.
