Help me choose a cam and head porter...........

Ok guys............I have been lurking in all kinds of head/cam posts the last few weeks, debating what cam to get and where to get my heads done. I will post as much relevant info as possible.

Here are the goals:

1) HP goal is to be in excess of 400rwhp NA

2) ET goal is mid/high 11's NA/10's on an NX wet shot (50-150
available)

Other considerations:

1) I live in MA, even though I have a hookup, some day I MAY
have to pass emissions........so I'd like it to be able to pass in
some way, shape, or form. (even its a PITA and via some crazy
tune)

2) I do have a daily driver (low 13 second GTP, hehe) but I don't
want a trailor queen, I'd like to be able to drive it a good
amount if needed, and not kill myself if I get stuck in traffic
once in awhile.

I have narrowed my cam selections down to a CC306 nitrous friendly cam (which I bought on GP from combo and have in my room), the GM847 cam, or a custom ground cam by Joe Overton or Bret Bauer. I also have considered solid roller. Heads I can either ship them out or I have a guy locally that can do them. If I keep the CC306 or get the 847 I think I may have the heads port matched to them (as long as this is the right way to do it) OR if I have someone max-port them I will sell the CC306 and get a custom grind. I also have 1.6rr's, and all the valvetrain components minus lifters.

What are your guys thoughts? Any other info that you guys may need ask away and I'll give it. I know these threads can get out of hand with comparisons and flaming between member that have various setups, so try and keep the facts straight and flaming down...........

I appreciate the help.
Brian

edit: money is somewhat of an issue, not gonna kill me if I have to sink more than a few grand, though not the end of the world if what I need costs more.

Have you ever thought about www.cmotorsports.com They do some pretty good custom cam and head work. Just a thought.

I think you should get a custom to whatever specs you want. I think you will see some better performance than just getting the cc306 or GM847.

I think that my only concern with max head porting and then custom cam is the additional cost, that and the accessories I got on the GP are for use with the CC306, not saying they couldn't be used for a custom one, but that I may have to tweak some parts of it. If I went with the custom setup, any idea on how much additional power I'd make over the CC306 or GM847? What about the solid roller, where does that fall within the power ranges I am looking at and vs. the other options?
Thanks
Brian

I gotcha.........any recommendations on head porters and costs? I know a lot of them are up close to 2g's with some charging shipping on top of that, and thats a lot for me, especially if I am going to get a custom cam on top of that, then to install it all............would like to keep the whole cost to around 3k installed, since for 4k installed my mechanic said he could build me a turbo kit that would work nicely. Maybe if it is going to run me that much I should explore that. (please no flaming/discussions on the turbo kit, it is not the way I really want to go YET).

Joe Overton has a guy that owns tin shed racing do all of his porting for heads and intakes ... Contact joe and he will direct you in the correct way.... You won't be disappointed ... As for price if you do the install you will meet your goals if not you will go over a little just because of labor.......

that choice didn't make any sense to me cause you would still have to get a cam to match the heads just the solid roller would be bigger

I hear ya, but if I ditch the CC306 I need a new cam anyways, thats why someone suggested the soild roller swap. Looks like the consensus is to get the heads done, then get the cam. I would still like to know the +/- of solid roller if anyone has the chance.........or time.

As high as it can handle it, maybe 6500 or so? That sound right? I think I can hit that non-solid roller, but if solid roller will let me rev higher than I'd entertain it. I just don't wanna blow sh*t up quite yet, lol.
