Help me, car is running bad
Help me, car is running bad
Ever since I changed my Opti I have been getting problems. 1 month after it was changed it started acting like it did when the opti was giving me problems but no trouble codes then I was getting a really bad stumble at 4k RPMs, then I chaged plugs and wires and the stumble wasn't as bad. Last night after driving around after installing the plugs and wires I was checking my fluids. When I pulled the dipstick up white smoke was coming out and now at 2k RPMs i'm hearing a loud tapping sound almost like my car was a desial. Is my timing off from when the opti was chaged?
Re: Help me, car is running bad
I think your problem is in the PCV and vacuum system but first let's deal with the possibility that you installed the opti wrong. There is only one point the cam dowel pin can fit in correctly. Any other point would cause the opti to stick out further. If you want to check it correctly, put number 1 on TDC. Now take the cover bolts loose and remove the cap. Notice where the number one cylinder contact is on the cap. Not the point the #1 plug wire hooks up but rather the point the rotor contacts. The rotor should be at that point now with the cap off. If it is not, the opti was installed incorrectly. Some would tell you at this point that normally when the opti is installed wrong, the rotor will eat the cap.
If you loosen the opti mounting screws, you should see the whole unit push away from the block if it's mounted wrong. Be sure to mount the cap on the unit out of the car and turn the rotor by hand to be sure the bearing did not get damaged. Now back to your problem.
I think you have a nonfunctioning pcv system or you have a vacuum leak. Take a look and see what you can find.

RE: the opti install. I just did one yesterday...make sure the opti fits in there snugg. The first 15 times I put the opti on, it was sticking out just very slightly...luckly, I had read a post specifically warning about using the screws to tighten up the opti. When you get it on there right, you'll know it, the opti will line up flush with the block, no spacing.
RE: your miss at 4k RPM. Every time this has happened to me was because there was white powder residue on the boots of the wire connecting the coil to the opti. Just a quick clean up with some rubbing alcohol and a cuetip and a little more di-electric grease, and the problem is fixed.
Good luck mate.
