Question Help me Build!

Right know my 94 Formula has 187,000 miles on it. It still has good power but the motor can be so much better. When I graduate and start college I will be working part time as a machinest/welder then when I get my certification I will be a machinest full time.

I want to build a motor that will equal 350 horses. Something that doesnt really have to have good high end speed just good take off more of less a red light killer and a good weekend drag car. I need advice on what to add when I have the motor rebuilt this summer. Cam,Headers, everything. I know a little but need to learn alot more. My dad has been unable to teach me all he has learned on cars due to his health. Any advice would be apreciated.

My goal which I think is realistic is by next july have a sleeper formula there will be nothing done to appearence besides a new paint job and a fully fuctional ram air hood.

Re: Help me Build!

You can hit your goals w/ full bolt on's + cam you don't need a rebuild unless the motor has a lot of miles, bearing wearing out ect. A LE1 package sounds right up your alley & is very budget minded.

This will sound dum but could you explain the le1 package? And 187,000 miles would not be worth the rebuild?

at 187K at least do a rebuild. A mild rebuild is cheap... and if you want, you might even think of stroking it. Depending on money though... you can do what you want on bolt ons and a cam... but rebuilding it... you might want to toss in a couple extra K's for a hell of a set up.

LE1 refers to a heads/cam package made by Lloyd Elliot. He is one of the very popular and reputable vendors on this board. His website is www.eportworks.com so you can look at his prices and different packages there. If you have 187K, I personally, would consider doing a rebuild before pushing the motor with a bunch of performance parts.

Re: Help me Build!

Honestly, miles don't mean much if it was taken care of properly.

Do a compression and leakdown test. If everything turns out OK, then just do bolt-ons and a mild cam. You'll have more than 350 hp at the crank.
