Don't you align the dots, like every other timing set?

I dunno, is that the case? Put the top gears dot on the botton and put the bottom gears dot on the top?

Re: Help with LT4 Timing Set

Dot to dot will work. You have to turn the crank and cam to make this happen.

Re: Help with LT4 Timing Set

Ok, but why would I have to do that, I didn't think that the lower gear had any sort of key, but I could be wrong... And this is for the LT4 set right?

Re: Help with LT4 Timing Set

Ohhh yea, the lower crank timing sprocket has a key.You have to turn it to line it back up dot to dot, which you should have done before you took it apart. If the lower sprocket don't have a key you had better get one or you'r out to lunch not to mention the valves you'r going to bend when you try to crank it and the prime word here is "try"because it won't run.

Re: Help with LT4 Timing Set

Yeah, I am looking at a pic of it now. I remember. So I am just gonna tap the starter a few times until the bottom gears dot is on the top, and then turn the camshaft untill the dot on the gear is on the bottom, remove the gears, put the chain on and then close her up? Any simple way to turn the camshaft since the valves and everything are tightened down on them?

Makes no difference where it was when you removed it.

You have to do it to phase the cam properly to the crank. Install is no different for this set as opposed to any other (tried to tell you that before).

I would hope you are doing this work with some reference material and not just by the seat of your pants.

Re: Help with LT4 Timing Set

Well I have already done it once. Its just that every time the car runs some other stupid **** breaks on it and I get sidetracked. This time the water pump stopped working on the high way. So I limped it about 2 miles to my buddys house while stopping on the side of the road. As it turns out after I get the new water pump and then pull the old one off, on tire jacks, at 12 midnight, covered in coolant... (just trying to paint the picture) I turn the waterpump shaft and it feels perfectly fine. So a lump comes into my throat as I turn the drive shaft from the motor, and as I swallow, I realise the shaft isn't being turned anymore. So another hundred dollar tow later (the car has had two tows in the last week besides this one) the car is back at the shop I am working on it at, to get the shaft off, I have to pull the damn timing chain and **** apart again. So... CSI electric pump awaits tomorrows installation. Wish me luck. I am really getting sick of this ****, and I doubt I will be doing a head/cam swap any time soon. If ****ing ever.

Re: Help with LT4 Timing Set

Put a bolt in the end of the crank and turn it with a wrench. Then put two bolt's in the cam and turn it with a "looooong bar".If you back the rockers off it will be easier.

And you wanted to be a wrench.Geeeeesssss

Re: Help with LT4 Timing Set

Either way is correct, just easier with crank sprocket at 12 and cam at 6.
