help with lt1 out of the top

i have read alot about pulling the lt1 out of the bottom... but is this the only way? i have just a block and trans left in the car and i would rather not have to pull everything required to come out the bottom. has anyone removed just the motor and left the transmission in place from the top? any suggestions would be appreciated.

sure have puled from the top,it is easy as long as the WP is off also, fans, radiator and shroud.you will put a lot of tilt to the motor to allow the tranny to come out with it but it will happen.

yes.

I used to take mine out the top...just pulled the intake off and put a chain on it. But I didn't have a heater box or much else in the car either.

I can get it out real quick now

We have mad some brackets that bolt to the 2 middle Exhaust manifold holes, Like everyone else said. With everything off the engine it comes out pretty smooth. Got mine out in about 3hours by myself this past weekend

If it hasn't already been mentioned it's a definite must to have a load leveler, aka "happy hooker" in order to get it out the top.

Happy Hooker isn't going to work for him as the intake has been removed.

I just put a chain across the motor. and put it in the intake bolts.....you need the right link hook on your hoist...and just stick it in the middle. works like a charm.

Levelers are pc. of crap......I always do every motor job I have ever done with a chain.

Do you have help? I normally have onbe person hold it/guide it and another to work the jack

Yes it will. You can simply buy grade 8 bolts that fit into the cylinder head bolt holes in the block. Why would it matter if the intake was on or off?
This is the one I have and it works fine.
