help!! just got the car and problems already...

so i went to see a buddy at work earlier and i let him drive it. as we were going down a road in a neighborhood i told him to give it some gas, he gave it about 3/4 throttle maybe and when it got to about 5,000rpm it suddleny died and now wont start. it cranks and sometimes backfires but wont fire up. just had a new fuel pump put on, has gas, pretty sure has ignition and is getting air. also every sensor i checked is hooked up. does anyone have any ideas? i know yall probably here this kind of stuff alot but i need help, i dont want anyone to check it out and i end up having to spend money i dont need to unless i have to. thanks for any input. oh yea also it has never missed, choked, died, or acted funny before. thanks again

Scan it for codes, maybe the opti blew up. If you dont know what the opti is then start searching and get very familiar with. It is the Achiles heel of the LT1.

Will it start and just not continue to run, or what? Details on what it will do will be helpful.

Sounds electrical to me. Start by seening if you have spark at the plugs and work your way back words. JMHO

update, i looked at the fuel filter and it matches like the fuel lines coming and going from it so i guess that means its the stock filter but then again it has nearly 92,000 miles so idk if it would even last this long. is it possible for that to be it when it hasnt really been acting up before? thanks again everyone

Unless you boogered your top end, i.e, broken spring, etc. (should be able to hear something like that) something is broken and unforunately it may be your opti----however, I would look for something that could go wrong when you reved it up. I.e. something that could go to hell---but when you say you have good spark and fuel, it is very difficult for anyone to assess your situation since fuel and spark are the biggies, esp. when you can't hear anything knocking, excessive ticking, low-oil pressure, etc.

Let us know what you find out.

When you say you just had a new fuel pump put in, how recently was that?

i had one put in last mon so a lil over a week ago, after a lil research it does sound like it might be the opti so im having it towed to a local shop since it would be a pita for me to do, just hope thats it and its not too expensive. a buddy also told me it might be the timing chain but i had no problems idleing, accelerating, etc... before at all. ran smooth and everything so idk, ill keep ya'll posted though. thanks again

quick question, do our cars have interferance or w/e timing? like would the pistons jack up the valves and such since ive tried starting it quite a few times since it suddenly died on me?

Its a non-interference setup.
