Exclamation Help with installing hub!! (have tool)

Ok here is the deal, I am reassembling the motor. I got the timing chain cover, oil pan ect ect on the the motor. Now its time for the hub to go on. I got an installer tool. for the 7/16" thread, the problem is that the when you put the hub over the tool only like 6 threads make it to the otherside. Far short of what I needed. My crank has a few threads that are ****ed up so it needs to be in there pretty good so that it can draw the hub in.

I hammered the hub on to the point where its just starting to go past the seal.

I do not want to use the factory hub bolt to draw it in, its kinda crappy. I was wondering what others used to draw theirs in. I am going to stop by auto parts stores and see if they have one thats longer so that I can get into there good and draw the hub on there,

BUT if I cant what else have you guys done?? I have a few Ideas but i need some fresh insight.

Sears/Lowes/Home Depot hardware stores sell grade-8 bolts
that work perfectly. Just buy one longer than you currently
have.

I think ill get a longer 7/16 bolt a bunch of washers Large enough to go onto the hub, then thread the bolt down to the point where it bottoms out. Using a nut, it will press the washers on the hub and draw the hub in.

OK I went to home depot and autozone, no dice, no bolt (7/16" fine thread) longer than 2 1/2" and the thread only being bout 1- 1/2" long.... autozone didnt have any installers either. I am going to try sears tonight, maybe ill have better luck there...

man this is getting annoying, even if i could get a rod, 7/16 fine thread, I can take 2 bolts lock them together to get the rod in, then use the washers... tht would be perfect.

Sears doesn't have bolts in their hardware department... if they do, it's a very small collection and definitely not going to have what ur looking for.

If you're looking for a longer threaded rod are grade 8 bolt you're going to need to visit a well supplied local hardware store (usually small places, not home depot, lowes, etc.. they don't have that kind of stuff... nor do auto parts stores for the most part). Napa does have grade 8 bolts though.

A tried several bolts and tools without any success.
Then brought out the ole propane torch, heated up the hub for 3-4 minutes, and it slid right up without any hammering!

That is what i did. I couldn't find 7/16 threaded rod anywhere within 50 miles of me so i had to order online. Went to http://www.mcmaster.com/ and bought B7 7/16-20 threaded rod and bolts. Worked dlike a charm! I did have to buy 100 bolts though.... ah well.

Strange that you guys are saying you'll can't find grade-8 bolts
at Sears, Home Depot because within 2 miles of my house there
is a Sears, Home Depot, Lowe's and Ace Hardware stores and
they all have them.

No place like Texas.

Lucky you

We have a bunch of pansy asses here in South Florida, so it figures most of the hardware stores would follow along w/ the concept.

Sears carries nothing in bolts anymore (even when I used to work there in the late 90's there selection was slim, and it's only gone downhill from there)... and home depot & lowes sell at the *strongest* a grade 5 bolt.

Like I said though, we have a good small hardware store around here (sorta like an ace hardware but larger) that has a huge selection of grade 8 stuff, including grade 8 stainless which is great for when I have to work on my jet ski
