Help identifying leaking heater hose

and sourcing
I have a '96 Z-28 that has a heater hose that is seeping at the joint of what appears to be a one way check valve.
I have found a picture here: http://shbox.com/1/heater_hoses.jpg
it is leaking(seeping) at part #13 where it joins to part #12.
I would like to replace it before it goes into a full failure.
Do I need an OEM hose\valve or can this be replaced with regular parts store heater hose?
How important is the one way valve?
Is this a symptom indicitave of some other failure up the road? a restriction, ect?
Thanks in advance,
Tal

just cut that hose, and go buy something similar at discount auto in that size and a fitting and some clamps and call it a day

It depends on how **** you are? I prefer the proper fitting and looking factory parts, but autoparts stuff will work just as well.
Water systems leak. If you have one corroded part I certainly would be checking the others.

Hello,

I'm sure I can do a custom bang-up job of replacement for far less than ordering factory from the dealership as long as I don't need the one-way valve.
What is the purpose of the valve in this hose assembly?
Thanks for the quick replies.

I just had that same exact problem myself. I went to Pep Boys and bought 2 feet of standard heater hose and a "heater repair kit" or something like that. The kit comes with a male-male splicing adapter and two band clamps. The hose replaced all of part #12 and the adapter replaced part #13. It works beautifully. Just be careful to not use the adapter in a curved section of the hose. It can be tricky to line-up the hoses correctly to do this, but i is possible. Good luck.

What is the purpose of the valve in this hose assembly?
This is just a guess, so don't slam me if I'm wrong. But I assume, like so many of the things on this system, it's to help keep the air out of the engine and thermostat.
Nother possibility is that it is to keep the water in the engine if there were to be a radiator leak.

its not a valve, it is just a flow restrictor, to slow down the coolant flow through the heater core, to improve efficeincy, and reduce any noise

Mine came apart at the same place, it just fell off, I got one off of ebay for $15.00 bucks only had 60,XXX miles on it. Might wanna try ebay before spending bucks on the dealership.

Thanks guys!
I'll replace that section when I replace my H20 pump.
Should I attempt to create a permanent restriction inside the replacement hose to optimize heater core performance?
Thanks again for the help.
