Exclamation Help! I need valve covers for my LE2!

We are trying to finish my LE2 install but we can not find any tall LT1 valve covers. Summit told me their custom aluminum covers would work but they are not even close. I know this is probably the simplest part of the job, but it is taking the longest. The Canton fabbed covers are back ordered. I need some ASAP.

What valve covers do you LE2 owners use?

I just have the stock valve covers with the lips on the fins bent straight. They work just fine, and I don't have any clearance problems.

You can use your stock covers., as mentioned above, just crimp the fins.

Yep, did the same thing here. Just straighten the bracket lip.

Did you have to mod the covers? The guys working on my engine say I can not have baffles and SBC valve covers will not clear my alternator.

Re: Help! I need valve covers for my LE2!

nope didnt have to modify them at all they just dropped right on
and to tell you how much more clearance i had
the stock covers would just sit atop the rockers leaving about an 1/8th inch of clearance between the valve cover and the head got those from summit and dropped em right on no issues
but i did grind on the alternator a lil bit
it was very close to fitting though

Re: Help! I need valve covers for my LE2!

Thanks for your help everyone... I am going to try to mod my stock covers for now. Then I will get the covers that FryedClutch recommended. I think I will have a nice set of Summit fabbed aluminum covers for sale relatively cheap pretty soon if they will not take them back.

I do not have my stock covers with me. How do I straighten the lips on them? I have no mechanical skills... lol.

I am dying to get my car fired up!

if you want a little help in the looks department, get some polished aluminums off of ebay that have the notch for our alternators. they fit decently well and look a lot better than stock

Look at the braces in the valve cover. You will notice they have a 90 degree angle that caused it to have a small lip. This lip hits the wide rockers. Take a wide pair of pliers and straighten the braces so that they don't have the 90 degree turn any more. You may also have to squeeze in the sides of the baffle on the passenger side valve cover. Once you do this, they should go right on.

Thanks for your advice... I passed this on to the guys working on my car. I hope it works!

Then break out the die grinder and hack the bracing out of the intake side of those too. Not a dig on you by any means but i had to grind the living **** out of mine to make them fit over my 7/16" 1.6 pro mags. that brace is about 1/4" wide and theres next to no room between pro mag trunions.

Stockers here, I cut the braces in question out with sheet metal shears. The entire valve cover mod took maybe 45 seconds per cover.

I eventually want to get some LT4 covers to help reduce rocker noise down the road.
