HELP! Exhaust Smell

Since I did my heads & cam and put my exhaust back together, I have noticed that sometimes when I come to a stop I get an exhaust smell inside the car. It gets into my clothes, skin and everything, really stinks. There is no cat on the car at the moment, but there aren't any leaks anywhere either that I can think of, system is pretty much sealed up.

Do you think it might just be the fact that I'm running no cat and I can smell the fumes a lot more than when running a cat? Or perhaps I'm running a little rich and need to get the car tuned.

Any help is appreciated... thanks.

Dude, you bought a Z28.....

No, but seriously. When I did my heads and cam with no emissions items on what-so-ever. My exhaust is much more potent. You may being running overly rich. Which I am. tuning should help you out.

I have an ORP also and my exhaust smells even in my car. I almost want to put the cats back on just to cut down on the smell. I have no cam yet, but expect it to only get worse!
Maybe I am running rich too, I will scan it tonight and see.

Thanks for the input, yeah, I figure its the catalytic convertor being off, but the hell with putting it back when its running rich, no point. I'm getting pretty good mileage though, around 12-14 around town flooring it half the time. Don't know how it could be running that rich, maybe just at idle.

You might consider getting under the car and cleaning all the exhaust system joints. Then shooting them with silver spray paint (when cool of course) and then driving the car for a bit (a day or two) and see if you can see any soot collecting in the painted areas. Soot means exhaust leak.

I've noticed that since installing my headers and catless y-pipe the exhaust smell is stronger, but I never notice it inside the car.

Well I found the problem. My exhaust runs about 8" before the end of the car and dumps out right there... well in the area where the spare tire mounts there is a little drain hole. As soon as I took the access cover off I smelt fumes, and this is after the car sat for about 10 minutes, I plugged the hole and no problems

Thanks y'all.
