Help..eng burning oil missing plate under intake

Ok so I forgot to install the stupid plate/tray under intake manifold I thought nothing of it since I deleted egr/air but I've got about 1,800 miles on it and have seen a little smoke. Question is this where the oil is going?? Sucked out through pcv valve?? Man I'd hate to pull the intake off to install plate.

Also can't I pull off the pcv and put a filter there temporary?? Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the pcv valve only pulls out internal preasure that build in the block...

Please help

thx

I the PCV system is supposed vent the vapors in the crank case. If you removed that plate then I believe it might actually suck OIL instead of VAPORS. That might be where the smoke is coming from.

You could pull the PCV out. Just make sure to cap off the TB port, intake port in the front and where the valve itself. If you leak the valve in and the port on the front of the intake below the TB, the motor will suck in air through the breather creating a mini vacuum leak.

Re: Help..eng burning oil missing plate under intake

Thanks, I just looked under the hood and saw the pcv has a little U shaped hose that hooks on to a vaccume on the intake and not the TB as I also thought. I will cap off the vaccume line on the intake and put a small air filter in the pcv hole.

As of now it is sucking 1qt of oil a week and can't imagine where else the oil could be going everything else is new.

I work for Dodge as an advisor and the magnum V8s have a very similar problem with the intakes where they suck oil through the intake.

thx

I had high oil consumption and it turned out to be the front and rear seal on the intake. Blocking off the PCV will make this worse, letting pressure build up inside engine and it will force air along with oil out somewhere. Check if you have oil leaking out of these seals. They are a pain to get sealed right.

That Plate is an oil separator for the PCV system. If you want to delete the PCV make sure you add an air breather on the passenger side to relieve the pressure build up.

Removing the intake is time consuming but not difficult at all on the OEM set up that is. I understand why you dont wanna go that way, I would not want to do it just to return that plate in there either. On the other hand... I dont want to smell the oil fumes coming out of the engine bay. The air intake is for the AC and ventilattion is right next to the Hood Seal... I wonder if some of those oil vapors will sneak in.

Re: Help..eng burning oil missing plate under intake

Well I'm glad to see I'm on the right page. I do have a air filter on the right valve cover in place of the oil neck. I also have no oil leaks and just have the anoying smoke and smell from the tail pipe. Only the other day did I figure out the possible problem. For now I will plug up the intake vac and put a small filter where the pcv is now.

thx
