Help!!!! Driveshaft won't go in......

I just got my trans back from rebuilding (T56). I was just about finished when I went to install the drive shaft and it wouldn't go in more than half way. It feels as if the OD of the driveshaft is dragging on something because the further it goes in the harder it is to spin. But when just the tip is in it has no problem spinning at all. What did these idiots do? You can amagine how agravating this is, I have to pull it back out and the shop is an hour away.

Twisted splines on the output shaft? What was the rebuild about?

I good guess but I don't think thats it. That wouldn't explain why its hard to rotate the shaft. It feels like the driveshaft is binding against whatever rides on the OD. Then trans was still working fine before it was rebuilt. They replaced the syncros, main shaft, reverse blocker, rear bushing, pocket bearing, 1/2 frictions, 3/4-5/6 blockers, billet shift dogs and seals.

Sounds like they bugered the rear extention bushing. This is what the drive shaft rides in. May be nicked or gouged.

Re: Help!!!! Driveshaft won't go in......

I put a freshly rebuilt M6 in my car and my driveshaft also went in with a lot of effort. It's possible that it was due to the fact that the tranny was dry when I got it and I only put oil in it after the driveshaft install. (although I still lubed the teeth on the driveshaft)

Oh yes, mine was the same way. The further it went in, the harder it was to spin. I did start the car and put it in first and the wheels were turning without any noise or anything, so I have no idea. I'll have the car on the road today and I'll let you know more.

You also need to lube the outside of the drive shaft yoke, the shiny part.

Yea, I just read that in the manual. Well, will probably do that next time the driveshaft comes out. It's going to be pretty damn hard to remove though, that's for sure. (I didn't hammer it in, but I had to use a pry bar on the back to push it in to get enough clearance for it to fit in the yoke)

Tail shaft bushing right in front of the seal is tight. If it's too tight and ya run it ya gonna spin,or ruin it..
Sand the yoke a little and see if it will go.
