help choosing a valvetrain
help choosing a valvetrain
Well im about to start pull my heads on my 1993 lt1 camaro and i need some opinions on a valvetrain set up. Im taking the heads to the machine shop next week some time and i need to know what would be the best lifters roller rockers push rods and cam combination, im looking for a good cam for my vortech v-1, eventually im goin to have cam motion grind me a cam but i want to go ahead and get something till then, what would be my best choice between the different types of cams and valvetrains. im open to all opinions thanks

How do you use the car? What components are going to be used (heads, intake)? Is it going to be a hydraulic roller setup like stock or a solid roller? More detail will help you get useful responses. The search function may be useful.

Im goin to use the car mostly for drag raceing but i dont want the cam to make it undriveable and i am keeping my powersteering and ac, probably goin with a mechanical roller cam but i was asking what would be my best bet because i dont know too much about this, as far as my heads im just goin to have them port polished 3 angle prolly put some bee hives in them and intake is probably goin to be the edelbrock one for lt4 so yea
I reccomend sticking with a hydraulic roller. You heads and intake are going to limit the rpm range to about 6,500, so you need to choose a cam for that range. My cam stuff is at the shop, but in general you should be looking at an intake duration at 0.050" in the 230 (225-235) degree range with an exhaust ~10 degrees longer. Keep the lift to not more than ~0.600" at the valve. The LSA should be ~110 degrees.

Why is it that you think an Edelbrock LT4 intake on LT1 heads is a good choice?
that was my bad, i hit the wrong button and my brain was off on a tangent. i meant lt1 edelbrock intake i would really like to have the intake and heads ported together, but im new to all of this just looking for some help and the best bang for my buck, seeing as im going to college im a little short on money but ive been saveing just buying 1 part at a time eventually it will be a 383 one day
The Edelbrock sofar does not seem to be worthwhile from a power standpoint, I would consider porting the stock intake and putting the several hundred dollars saved into say shaft rockers instead of stud mount or something else like that to improve reliability.
