Technically, top dead center just refers to the point when the piston is furthest away from the crankshaft's centerline. So the piston is at TDC twice per cycle: compression and combustion strokes. So yes, #1 and #6 are at TDC, just on different strokes.

Ive never seen it used like that. This might be like the a nitrous can be a NA motor argument, just differences in jargon. Interesting. I know shoebox notes a difference on his webpage.

Hmm, interesting. The way I was taught is like that article you posted for my viewpoint. I've just never seen it explained like the other one, to me it's always been specified TDC on compression or combustion stroke. Good info though, just where the info comes from I guess makes the difference.
