help on cam selection

Hi everybody,

so here is the problem. I bought a few months ago an Hotcam kit and was really happy with it since i realized more power would be great. So : i bought LE2 heads, 52 Holley TB, 30 SVO and planned to have something around the 500 hp at the engine with the same cam.

My question is : can i really hope going close to the 500 hp mark with this cam ? If not (and as the engine is opened now), what cam do you suggest me as best for my setup ? some LE cam ? CC306 ? something else ?

I will still use stock converter and don't intend to change it for now.

Waiting for your opinions.

Thanks.

Pierre

Talk to one of the custom cam grinders on the site, they will make you very happy.

The biggest cam that LE can get for you. That would probably be your best bet because it will better match the heads.

Not sure if you'll get close to 500hp though.

you'd need to .0 deck the block and have the pistons .005 in the hole. get the compression up around 12.2 : 1 and a custom grind. A single plane might help but many can do it with stock. I dont see the stock shortblock making 500rw but @ the crank......why not

yes just at the crank would be fine ..... i don't have dreams having them at rear wheels (would love but beleive it will then need much more money to improve trans, rear end , etc , forged internals ..)

I bought a M. Gasket 0.26 head gasket to rise compression.

For custom grind ? who can do it ? i've seen post here about a Joe O ? how good are his cam ? where to contact him ?

Maybe others can offer some opinions on this, but Patrick G custom specs cams for $25. Just go to ls1tech.com and search his name and click on the link in his sig. I just find him much easier to deal with than Bret.

Bret must've told you that, right?

Patrick G's results speak for themselves. At least he'll explain why he chose specs for a cam. That's the problem I had with Bret. I understand he wants to keep some trade secrets, but I'm just not down with his way of doing business. Pat gave me his time and effort, which Bret never would. Just take any advice with a grain of salt. No offense homie(speed demon24), but you have a BRE cam, so of course you're gonna support Bret. Bret will give you good cams, so I've been told. I'm not saying he doen't know his stuff. He's just kindof hard to deal with, in my opinion.

No. Anyone with half a brain can figure it out. He doesn't own or work for any shop, he never built any engines, and he has never worked for a shop. He has 0 engine building experience. He just spends time in the dyno section on LS1tech and thinks hes a cam god. And his last "small" cam he put in his car and took credit for was specced out by thunder racing a year or 2 ago, not himself, yet he managed to become a cam expert right after that But if you want some "internet expert" with no real world experience to spec you a cam go ahead and have him spec you out a cam.

By his results you mean him blowing into the weather station to increase the humidity which in turn increases the correction factor? I guess no one finds it odd that he never posted any track results with his setups either.

Have you ever even talked to Pat? He's worked for years as an outside consultant to Thunder Racing. Questioning his credentials is also questioning Thunder's credentials, since he works for them and all. I have actually been to and had work done at Thunder. Very knowledgeable staff. Have you ever been to Thunder? The difference b/t what I'm saying and what you're saying is that you are making false statements. I'm just stating my opinion. Patrick G is a much friendlier and easier to deal with than Bret. To me, Bret is a little cocky. There's a reason he's banned at ls1tech. But go ahead, get a custom BRE cam. I'm sure you'll have a bad *** cam. Good luck!

I've had this cam in my car for awhile now I'm not sure what you're trying to say. If he was a consultant for thunder racing for so long how come they specced the cam out for him a year or 2 ago instead of pat specing it himself? And I never said BRE is the only place to go for cams, if you don't want to go with one from Bret theres ALOT better choices out there besides some internet expert, there's Futral, Cam motion, Laser cams, ect, all actual places that have track results. And yes, I lost ALOT of respect from thunder racing once they started using him as their cam expert.

Alan Futral. We can agree on that. Call and talk to John. He can have Alan spec you a cam for free!
