Help/Advice Should i skip the torque converter?

My Situation.

Had valve float last year, Tore it down...more and more...ideas kept coming, money kept leaving! lol

95 A4

Block is out of the car on an engine stand. This will be my DD. Parts currently waiting to go in.

LT4 Hotcam, springs and 1.6 RR
new oem replacement lifters
Chromoly rods
Pacesetter LT's & Y
Air Foil
Full CIA
TB Bypass
SLP loudmouth CatBack(already on)
New opti
LT4 ED timing set
PCM4less tuned ecu
ALL! new gaskets

This thing will be baby killer loud! lol
* My question *
Torque converter or not? Its got the stock gear ratio now, no shift kit but the a4 has just been rebuilt. And can you help me understand what it would be like with or without the TC. My plan if i need to, would be Edge 2800-3000. Thanks so much guys, TC's are not my thing.

*BTW- I search me a** off on this site and you guys are the best, as you can see ive only had to post 4 times yet i already have all my parts at home for this build-up. Thank you!

a torque convertor will make a night and day difference, I'd say a 3200 stall for that cam atleast

For a cammed car, a torque converter and the proper gearing are essentials to an overall well running setup.

13.0 Without 12.5 With Thats just a rough estimate though. I have a Hughes 3000 and my car still has great streetability. But then im just a kid so i would get other thoughts on this first, but trust me it makes a world of difference and you wont regret it it. That stall i think is one of the best for a street driven car. Also what stock gear do you have 2.73 or 3.23? I believe the GU5 code is 3.23

My stock gears are 2.73

-So you guys seem to definitley recommend it...thats good (not for the wallet though)

-Are the fuddle converters ok? the price seems pretty good. So 3000sp at least for best of both worlds.

AND does this mean i will NEED a trans cooler and shift kit or will i be fine with that stall speed?

Fuddle is a good brand, and they aren't too hard on the pocket book either. Also, a tranny cooler is a very wise investment, especially considering they run around 50 dollars.

I know the guy pretty well at BYUNSPEED, He has treated me great so far with headers and stuff and knows his camaro's pretty well. I ran the question buy him on what he thinks and he recommended this one. TCI 3000sp

http://www.byunspeed.com/product_inf...oducts_id=1866

Should i go for this one guys? And i cant stress enough, this is my DD only
(a VERY fun one!)

You guys are the best! thanks

And if someone could point me in the direction of a Trans cooler to fit my needs with out OVER cooling that would be excellent!

TCI doesn't have as good of a reputation in putting together a good converter. I would stick with the Fuddle idea.

This is off-topic but but just FYI, that exhaust setup is going to be very loud yes, but also very raspy if your not running a cat or anything like that. I'm currently running the exact same thing and I like it without the cat. But some people think it's a little too raspy. Anyway, just wanted to let you know so you don't end up doing all that exhaust work only to find you don't like it like you thought you would.

Yeah, i figure its probably going to annoy me, being driven everyday. But I put the SLP LM on there last year before i knew i was going to do all this other sh*t. So if it gets on my nerves, i'll probably switch out the loudmouth with another more mild cat-back. Good to hear from someone with the same set up though, thanks! Are you cammed as well?

No cam, I've only got whats on my sig below, saving up for a 396. Mine is also a DD. I like the sound, but it kinda drones out my 2g stereo sometimes...

Stay away from TCI. If you want the car to be quick, buy at least a 3200 quality converter and put 3.73 gears in.

I would go with a 2800 stall since it's a daily driver. Do you ever take this car to the track? The only way you will get the most out of the torque converter or gears is with some really sticky tires. Otherwise you will just spin and slow it down. You will probably want at least a good set of DR's which usually don't last as long and are not always the best for a DD either. You can always throw some slicks on just for the track which would work great. A higher stall can even be somewhat dangerous on the street. Never floor it from a stop if the street is even the slightest bit wet or it will easily get out of control. If you've ever hydro plained or lost control in the rain, you know what I mean. Just some things to think about since no one else mentioned it and it is a daily driver. I have a 2800 stall in my DD with 315 street tires that are pretty sticky. I still have spin even off the N2O. It may be different with the weight of the camaro and the different suspension.? Maybe some others can add in their experiences. I'm happy with it but I'm glad I did not go higher. It seems to be the perfect stall for a DD street/track car without swapping tires. IMO

Edit: I would also highly recommend adding a shift kit.

Thanks, I will rarely take it to the track although i'm not very far from Atco. Why is everyone telling me to stay away from TCI. This sucks, ive seen bad experiences with fuddle on this board, but also a lot of support. I'm about to search TCI on here for some threads. I see in your sig you have a TCI. What has your experience been with it and have you tried other brands? Thanks!!

I have not tried any other brand. My TCI Torque Converter was installed on the car new when my transmission was rebuilt in 2005. I have only been able to visit the track a few times a year since. I do not launch with the N2O. I get too much spin with the street tires. I'd also rather take it easy on the rear end and trans until I can later upgrade them. I usually wait until just after the 60ft before spraying. I have also heard a few bad things about TCI converters from others. That was after I had it installed though. So far so good. Maybe I have just been lucky.

Edit: I would definately recommend an external trans cooler. It is cheap and easy protection. I went with the B&M universal supercooler #70266. It bought for under 70$. It is rated at 20,500 BTU's. Make sure you have the space available to mount it first. Mine is in front of the AC condensor.
