Help adjusting stock rockers.

Ive got the valve covers off and im adjusting my stock rockers useing the running engine method. Im on the drivers side and the 3rd or maybe 4th rocker from the front seems to tick, but not as loud as if it was loose. Do these sometimes tick like this. You have to really be listening for it to heard it, im useing a long tube to isolate it.

It doesnt seem to do away with more tightening.

What im doing is lossening them until they tick, then retightening them until they dont, then another 1/4 turn for preload. Is this right.

Please help me out.

Re: Help adjusting stock rockers.

I believe the manufacturer recommends 1 full turn past 0 lash, however this is just because they want to have the extra margin for error, i.e., most go about 1/2 turn. However, since everyone has their own idea of where 0 lash is, the results will vary.

In your case, I believe you should just do as you are doing: loosen each one until it ticks and then tighten until the tick is gone(bearing in mind that all rockers will tick to some degree), but if it isn't really obvious, then you are probably good to go.

Once you get to the 0 lash (stopping the obvious clacking), you can start with the 1/4 method and tighten them more if it seems to quite them down--not to exceed 1 full turn.

It isn't rocker science and probably no two rockers will be exactly the same, but you should be in the ball park with your method. JMHO

If you cannot get the tick to go away with any different amount of preload, you may have a bad lifter (or maybe even something wrong with the rocker arm).
