help???
help???
ok this may not help much but maybe it will some how. the last few days while i would be accelerating, the car would kinda stumble like the engine was just put under an extreme amount of load for a sec or so and then it wouldn't do it again.
well this morning i was driving to work and it did it again but i was at a low enough rpm that it died on me. took me a while to start it up but didn't sound like it had spark at all...just trying i put the pedal down and cranked and it started but now it runs like crap.
it will idle, but when i tap the gas it dies, but if i gradually push the gas it revs up. could this be the opti? the motor has 1k miles on it and EVERYTHING is brand new, so i'm hoping it could be something else. any ideas anyone?? thanks

Why does everyone always assume it's the opti
Yes it could be your opti but always check the easy stuff first. You could have burnt a spark plug wire or 2, a plug boot could have come off, your fuel pump could be crapping out (check fuel pressure) and your intake ducting between the MAF and the TB could have worked its way loose and you have unmetered air entering the system.

yeah i'm hoping its one of the two and not something else..i just put brand new wires and plugs three days ago for that reason, burnt through two wires but i never had any problem starting it back up...so i'll get a gauge and check the fuel pressure after i get off work
Actually.. they might have something going on... when I replaced my fuel pump, when I took the pump out, the "sock filter" on the bottom of the pump was FILTHY. as in you couldn't see the filter. That could be it.
Either way, I'd replace the fuel pump, because the stock one isn't going to give you the fuel you need with the setup you have. I'm surprised running the stock one hasn't killed your top end on your car. You engine has to be starving for fuel...

ok i checked fuel pressure last night and it was showing like close to 45 to 50 pounds. but after the key was off and stuff the pressure slowly dropped to below 40 pounds..is that normal? and i didn't do anything to my car...it started up but ran crappy for a second then cleared up..and i am driving it now..but i still have a lil hesitation sometimes in the rpm range
I assume if it's running that bad it must be throwing a code and your SES light is coming on. Did you scan for codes?
You fuel pressure will slowly drop off over time, you pressure sounds normal to me.

no i gotta go get it checked..whoever had the car before me i think pulled the bulb or something for the check engine light..cause it doesn't even light up when you first turn the key on...so i'm gonna put a scanner on i today after work.
you need to check the pressure at Wide Open Throttle i believe
my fuel pump read 43, but had the same symptoms that yours is having.... i switched the fuel pump out anyways, and it ran fine...

what is is supposed to be at wide open throttle? i can try that today..i'll just have to figure out how to have the gauge sticking out of the hood and the hood close...or can i just go wide open just sitting there? or does there have to be under a load?
ok it has been acting fine until this morning..died on me again..but this time if i put the gas pedal half way down...it started after a few cranks. so does this mean it is possibly fuel related? it seems to only die when i'm rolling to a stop or when i'm taking off from a stop..low rpms.?
