Cold air intake and a catback exhaust are two of the most basic and common beginner mods. After that, you may want to consider doing headers, roller rockers, gears, and a higher stall converter if you have an automatic tranny.

There are lots of different options in terms of catbacks for these cars. You may want to conduct a search and you will pull up endless posts about this topic. You may even try www.ls1sounds.com to get an idea how some of these catbacks sound. Check out the supporting vendors on this site, most of them do carry catbacks at very good prices. It just depends on what sound you are after and how much you want to spend.

I'm not sure what the heat shield is that you are referring to?

get some headers and a catback, they are a pretty basic install.
For the catback, I have a magnaflow and love it, I got it for $350 shipped to my house.
