Hedman a 1 7/8 LT1 headers fit?

Hedman makes a set of 1 7/8 headers for the LT1, it is a race type header, no flange for exhaust etc. Anyone used this set on a street car, will they fit with a tube K member, and stock A/C box? Any fitment issues? I know I will need ex adapters. Any Info appreciated.

if i remember correctly, the ac box needs heavy modification to clear the big tubes. Not many guys are running these, but hopefully the 1's that are will reply.

I run the 1 3/4 version of this header, heater box needs to be removed. Besides that, fitment is excellent.

The entire evaporator box under the hood? I am gonna have a/c on the car. Do the bends extend that far away from the head? Is it the 2 rear tubes only or does the front tubes come across the top and then down? Anyone got some pics?

Thanks

They require a lot of work to get them in! One of the primary tubes goes right through the A/C box, and there were some other serious fitment issues ... I think the A/C line that loops upward under the #2 cylinder needed to be bent or removed, which is no big deal because your A/C box is hacked up from the #4 primary (or #6, I forget) and your A/C won't work anyway. It was a VERY hard install, and not worth the headache IMO.

I just bought a rolling chassis 95 Z28 that will be losing the ac box, etc. I knew about the ac box issue and it isn't a problem. I just really need to know if it will clear my Canton or have any problems with the BMR K-Member I am installing.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Hedman a 1 7/8 LT1 headers fit?

Bringing this back to the top...I have Hedman 1 7/8" headers on my car with a Canton Oilpan, HVAC delete and a BMR K-member and the headers clear all those items... I just ran into one big problem...there is no way they clear the steering linkage for the power steering. Any buddy else encounter this problem....and what did you do? Does the steering linkage for a manual rack enter it further to the driver's side? If that is the case, it might clear...otherwise at this moment I have no idea what I am going to do...

I think I am gonna cut and lay my evap box side back towards the fender, seems like alot of room in there. As far as steering linkage, you have to make a new one out of rod stock and 2 u joints.

Might be easier to just to buy a 1 7/8" u-bend, and have an exhaust shop cut and re-weld the #1 primary tube ... that's the way I had mine done.

Definitely, but I bought them coated from Jet Hot....so I am ordering a manual rack from Madman...from everything I have found, it should fit without modifying it or the header tube.

I don't see how that would work without having a third u-joint or something and having a fixture to hold the linkage away from the header tube. The different Borgeson joints, etc get expensive real quick so I think I will just go with the Madman Rack. Have you already done this? Any pics of how you did it? Oh yeah...no HVAC box is awesome....so much more access to the back plugs and header bolts it isn't even funny.

Thanks for everybody's input.

Re: Hedman a 1 7/8 LT1 headers fit?

My car will keep the a/c. I think setting the side of the box in will work. A buddy of mine did the steering linkage, worked on his car, cost about a $120 in parts. The "rag" joint is primarily what is in the way, his did away with it.

Dave, any possibility of you snapping some pics of where you were having issues with the steering linkage?

Re: Hedman a 1 7/8 LT1 headers fit?

good deal
i am considering new headers and these are on the list along with the Hedman stepped and Kooks stepped

now that i ran across this thread, i'm not too sure if i want to deal with any of these issues. altho getting rid of AC is already done and i have thought about removing the entire heater box sooo...
