Heads, with out the cam.

I am sure this has been posted before, but I’m sure you guys got nothing better to do anyway ;P

How much of a HP gain will I see from putting ported heads on my car with larger valves (sorry don't have any numbers) with the stock cam, will all bolt ons. (LT headers, CAI, other basic stuff)

Also, will it help when spraying nitrous?

Re: Heads, with out the cam.

You'd probably gain 20-30 rwhp depending on the quality of the heads.

Nitrous will flow through anything. If you're asking if the heads will 'amplify' the gains you see with the nitrous, not really.

Well I was thinking with increased intake and exhaust I may be able to up the nitrous more safely than if I did not have head work done.

The only thing that will make nitrous 'more safe' is a stronger bottom end. The end result of nitrous is increased cylinder pressure, which puts more strain on the bottom end...the only way to be 'more safe' with increased cylinder pressure is with a stronger bottom.

I have always heard of nitrous blowing head gaskets....with ported heads wouldn't the risk of blowing a head gasket be decreased?

Re: Heads, with out the cam.

if you open up the chamber size of the heads, the comp ratio should drop a little, so effectively it is dropping the cylinder pressure. however i doubt it's enough of a drop to say it's making it safer to run higher jets.

if you're still on stock internals i'd be more worried about detination destroying your pistons rather than your bottom end breaking due to running higher jets.

I dont think you would gain anything "worthwhile" by just porting your heads. If your gona do heads, you might as when do the hotcam kit instead, it would be cheaper and make more power than the stock cam and ported heads would.

Heck yeah, I would. Who cares what other people think on here.

It will cost ya about 100 bucks and a weekend.

As for the N2O the only thing holding you back are the pistons. But if you keep it rich and have a good window switch, I have seen a 200 hit on a stock short block last a while not forever but a while.

Re: Heads, with out the cam.

With the stock cam, I dropped 4 tenths going from stock heads to ported GTP heads/intake and 1.6 rockers, with no additional tuning. Sorry can't remember the mph changes though - it's been a number of years since my car was that close to stock
