I need to clean them as they are really dirty..

Not sure what's 'supposed' to be used, but when I did my intake leak repair, I figured it'd be a good time to clean up the manifold an hit it with numerous coats of high temp red/clear coat. I used carb cleaner and various brushes. Then I wiped it down with soaking wet rags (water) to remove any residue, dried as best I could, then let it sit over night to fully dry before painting. Maybe a little more info than you were looking for there, but what the hell... figured I'd throw it all in
Still looks great, btw.

If you have them off just use regular can of parts/brake cleaner. The good thing about it is that since its made for brakes it does not leave a residue. When I tore down the motor, I first hit the parts with the can of brake cleaner then put it in the regular parts solvent, that way most of the big crap was off. And as stated earlier brake cleaner is made so it does not leave a residue, and there is no worry of a film being left on the parts.
