Heads and cam swap question
Heads and cam swap question
I am in the middle of a heads, cam, and LT swap.
After taking off the heads and looking into the cylinders, the pistons have a little carbon build up on them.
My question is do I need to clean off the carbon?
If so, do they need to be removed from the engine?
And what to use to clean them?
By the way the cylinder walls still have the swril marks, so I don't think that they need to be honed.
Thanks
Joe

I'd leave them alone, nothing to be gained there that you couldn't running a can of seafoam through there.
If you're going to have your heads off for any length of time I'd spray down the bore and any exposed surface with WD40 so nothing rusts.
If the heads will be off more than a few hours I'd seal the surface off with tape, you won't regret it.
Hope this helps,
