Heads/cam done now issues

Hey, i just did Lloyd Elliot heads and cam. Took it to the track (untuned) it went 13.38 @ 104. I wasnt really disapointed because it was untuned. Then got it tuned and dynoed it...it only dynoed 325rwhp and 312rwtq. Then got it retuned by pcmforless. Went back to the track and went 13.40s-50s. @ 104.

Still kind of fells slugish off the line but it does have 2.73s and stock stall (I know that is killing time) But when the car hits 3rd gear just as i am going across the traps it falls on its face hard! Feels kind of strong from 1-2 even though it hits the limiter. 60's are 2.04-2.05's with crappy hand me down nittos. The car has no cold air, Stock injectors ,stock tb, Mac midlenths in to getto *** true duals with no h pipe or x in to glass packs. The exhaust is killing me i think, I am going to go with Long tubes and true duals with x into 18" bullets.

Also the Rockers i have are hot cam 1.6s that have be set at 3/4 of a turn past zero lash. I think that they may be to tight but any info will help.

So ask me questions, i need to find the lost power.

thanks
Joe

How many miles do you have on the motor?

You MAY be holding the valves open so you could try setting the valves to 1/4-1/2 turn. Try setting them with the motor running... I find it the easiest and fastest method.

Stock injectors might be running outta fuel as well. What are the specs of your cam?

93k on the motor. I think that you are right about the rockers really need them adjusted right. Specs cant be released on acount of its custom. but its bigger than the hot cam and smaller than the cc306.

haha yeah I figured you would be kinda touchy on the cam specs. I just needed a ball park figure though and bigger than hotcam with ported heads is probably gonna need some 30# injectors in higher RPMs.

stock injectors are good for approx 400rwhp. you might want to check your fuel pressure (pump or regulator). is the car running rough or just "falling on its face"? are you getting bad 60 foot times due to lack of traction?

It only falls on its face at the track when i hit 3rd gear when i cross the traps. And i do spin at the line enough that the car will kick side ways just a little then hook.

Can you post a picture of the dyno sheet?

Some info on were your powerband starts will help w/ a new stall that you need. Also your snail gears need to be at least 3.42, but I would go w/ 3.73. Your exhuast needs to be redone from the headers all the way back. If you want true duals, then do an h-pipe w/ 40 series flowmasters.

Re: Heads/cam done now issues

Why heads/cam on such a stock *** car????? I think 13.4 is pretty good considering the headers you are running, stock stall, stock little gears, a sluggish 2.04 60foot, stock injectors, and the list goes on and on. I think you need a lot of little extra things to wake the car up.

I would suggest some injectors, stall (anything will help out) and some gears. You aren't going to see normal heads/cam numbers/times until you do the supporting mods.

I agree, I think the exhaust is whats hurting you the most. And those 2.73's aren't helping any either.

That mph is pretty pathetic.. something isnt right at all... I went 103mph on a 2.6 60ft with stock cam, stock manifolds, etc...just bolt ons. (everything in sig minus cam and headers) If you feel it dropping on its face in 3rd you may want to get a scanner on it and watch for knock, or anything else that looks unusual.

this says a lot itself. You already know what you're missing, so don't feel too bad, it's better than having motor health issues.

Re: Heads/cam done now issues

here's my opinion, your running almost the same setup as me. but im running 30lb injectors. i would re-adjust the rockers, upgrade to a higher stall, 3.42 or 3.73 gears, and i would go with a decent catback. if anything, just change the stall and gears. also, i would log a run and send it to whoever tunes your car and they might be able to adjust the tune.

What is your maiximum lift on your intake and exhaust cam lobes? If they are over .550 you will definetely have a problem with the rockers from a Hot Cam Kit. There maximum lift is .550. Your valves are hanging, and your exhaust is no way the problem. The 2.73 rear-end is, since it puts your engine out of its power band in 3rd gear.
