Headlights

I have an electrical problem I believe. I just hooked up my nitrous system and I think I may have ground something wrong or am pulling power from somewhere I shouldnt, but the headlight on the driver side now grinds real bad after it goes down. Now, if that was just the case, id think my gear was bad, but for some reason when I click the light button to just the foglights (where the headlights dont flip up) the headlights now flip up. Theyre not on, but they flip up and that isnt right. And when I hit the alarm, the lights come up and go back down. The motor or lights didnt act up until the other night when I got my soleniods hooked up. I am going to unhook all the grounds and see if that helps, but has anyone ever heard of this? I need help cause I am going out tonight with lots of other f-bodies and dont want to be embarrased with my headlights. Any advice is appreciated.

Sounds to me like you shaved some wires and they are shorted together somewhere. Look around where you mounted or ran any new equipment. You may have also misidentified sme wires in your hook up.

I just ran eveything off the battery. I also grounded things in various spots. I didnt do anything with the foglights or headlights. Thats what I cant understand. The nitrous works, so everything has to be hooked up right. Just somethings interfering with the foglights/headlights.

It won't hurt to go back to every place you made a connection or ground. If it was ok before yoou installed the Nitrous and not now, them I'd say you bumped someting loose or lost aconnection somewhere.

Yeah, everything was alright before, so I am going to check everything. Hopefully I find it, if not I will be asking again tomorrow probably. Thanks for your help.

Oh, on the headlight grinding when it's down, there is a solid state module that is supposed to disconnect the motor. It may be bad or the input signal is incorrect.

You hooking up the nitrous is most likely unrelated to your headlight problems.

The gears stripping is a VERY common problem. When the gears strip, it basically "freaks out" the headlight control module. Most of the time immediately after the gear(s) strips the headlights will pop up and down when they aren't supposed to... most commonly when you arm/disarm the alarm. Or, like you said, they pop up with just the fogs on. If you fix the stripped gear problem the other headlight oddities will most likely disappear.

Take a look at the following page near the bottom. I have described a free fix that works much of the time. Good luck!

Gee, you would think that GM would go to metal gears after 10 years of them messing up. I'm glad you know more about those than I do. I'm glad I don't have pop up head lights.

Flip up lights are cool, but they're a (*&^&%*$$#^( to work on! If they were both glipping up and down I would say it was wireing, cause I wouldn't think they would both go out at the same time. Now, if both lights sre controlled by the same control module, then it would make sense..... screw it- go in stealth mode tonight!

Ok, I did the free headlight fix. Now my headlights dont go up and down when they feel like it. The only problem now is that the headlight grinds after it goes up instead of after it goes down. Does this mean I need to replace the gear? Least I can run around with just my foglights on and not have the headlights up. Thanks for your help guys.
