Headers/Y-pipe burning and melting through parts of engine wiring harness
Headers/Y-pipe burning and melting through parts of engine wiring harness
For those of you with headers/y-pipe etc. What kinds of problems have you had with the hot pipes burning or melting through wires (even plastic coated wires) in your wiring harness? I'm having the wiring re-worked right now (~$300 is what its costing me) and hopefully that'll get the issues i'm having fixed. These issues include but aren't limited to:
melted starter lead from battery
possible ignition lead short (somewhere)
Wiring to transmission melted through
o2 sensor harness melted or melting
and God knows what else...
Just a warning to anyone - when you do headers or any other bolt-on or modification(s) - DON'T HALF-*** ANY HARNESS WIRING
... do the modifications yourself if you have to - just don't skimp on it ... you're liable to wind up stranded in a Publix parking lot....... lesson learned

That sucks dude! This is the reason why I always do all of my own work. If whoever put in your headers would've took their time and double checked everything, you would'nt be having this problem. Make sure the ABS wheel sensor wires are being re-routed.
hehe , the guy who I bought my 97 from Header rapped anything under the hood that could be melted by the headers lol
. Especially the fuel lines. While I was settung up to buy the car from him he told me about his 94 with a supercharger and headers. The heat from the headers melted through the fuel lines and caught the damn car on fire down the road from the dealership he bought it from. He walked down there and bought the 97 that I now own
. BTW , The header wrap is still on there, sure its ugly , but if this sonbitch catches on fire I cant afford to buy another one even though there all used now hehe.
