headers and tires

okay i have two questions. first is what hp gains would i expect from edelbrock LT1 headers. are these considered long tubes as they dont look very long compared to hookers LT's. if not what would be the horsepower lose between LT's and edelbrocks. and second question doesnt really have to do with engines but i am having a terrible time finding tires. heres my goals for the tire #1 has to fit on my 16'' rim. #2 i need something that grips hell a lot better than my 245 kumho's (suck). ive been looking at nitto's but they dont have many options for 16". any other tires that hook awesome. o yeah this will be driven mostly on the street but could eventually hit the track more often once i get a little more power. o yeah still have the stock 10 bolt. any help to either question is appreciated
thanks

Re: headers and tires

I think Eagle has some KDW tires for stock wheels? not sure (is that the right tire?) May look into the OE wheels as well, they weren't bad. Edelbrocks really are not much of a performance gain, 1 5/8" primaries etc... You really should look into Longtubes if you have the option, or AS&M, SLP, or MAC, all are highly regarded, even check out the new Pacesetter longtubes, probably the best value! Good luck.

Re: headers and tires

The Kumho's arent all bad. You could step up to the 275's in either the 711 or 712 tire. I've had pretty good luck with them.

Re: headers and tires

the edelbrock tes headers are a shorty type. it has a small diameter primary as well as small diamerter collector and y-pipe. i wouldnt expect to see much of a performance gain with them. dont they go for about $350? for that price you could find alot better deal on somehting that would give you alot better bang for your buck. pacesetter has uncoated long tube headers out now for $285 according to the magizine i got today. i agree with Birdman on the tires, 275 would fill out the rim/wheel well nicely and i have used Hankook tires (k104, H101) with good results, as well as the Khumo Ecsta 712.

Re: headers and tires

is there some kind of compound the tire should be made out of for max traction, or just contact patch and AA traction rating are the big issues. also does anyone make a tire bigger than 245 for the 16" R. thanks for everyones help

Re: headers and tires

i looked for some KDW as they look as though they are very sticky. exactly what i wanted but i couldnt find them for 16"R. i couldnt find the Ecsta 712 in 275's for 16R either. biggest was 255. dang i hate these 16" rims.

Re: headers and tires

If you want specifically 275's and bigger, you will have to step up to 17's, or another wheel. 255's is as big as they go for street tires on 16" wheels I believe

Re: headers and tires

thanks for everyones help i think im just going to get the
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 Size: 245/50YR16 or
Fuzion ZRi Size: 245/50WR16

my only concern is that my tires aren't shot yet, probably half tread left and im wondering if there should be a noticable difference in acceleration. with the M6 my supra's get nuked at just about any throttle from a dead stop and i hate it. so if i spend the money i want something that can grip. will i be happier with these tires?

Re: headers and tires

Well I imagine that the F-1's will grip better than the ZRi's... but the ZRi's may last longer... and since your tires aren't done yet... u could do a burnout contest with yourself... or sell the tires on the parts for sale section
