which headers should i get?
i have a 93 z28 a4 with 119k miles, and im starting to enter the modding phase for some reason...i just want a faster car. ive been looking at headers here recently and i cant really decide which to go with. im only 19 and in college so there is a budget. so far ive looked at hooker w/ y pipe ($369) and MAC w/ y pipe ($469). ive heard good things from MAC, so i was kinda leaning towards them, as of now. is it better to get shorty or long tube headers? i was told to go with long tubes, and the headers i have in mind dont say exactly what they are. i'd appreciate it if some of you could chime in and give me some advice on buying some new headers. as of the budget, im not planning/willing to spend over 500. thanks in advance

You looking for shorty/mid tube/long tube?
You can get some Jet Hot Long Tubes for $520 I think they are...I know you said not more than $500...but eh, what's $20 Or are you looking for $500 INCLUDING Y-pipe...

Long tubes would be a better choice if you're planning on running a larger cam, ported heads, or many more mods. Myself, I got Hooker shorties since I knew I was keeping my car basically stock. Things to think about though:
Long Tubes:
Shorty Headers
Don't forget to figure in the cost of the extra stuff too, like good bolts, good gaskets, etc.

Long Tubes:
- More horsepower
- A PITA to install - might require new engine mounts, lifting the engine a few inches, some fabrication, etc.
- Need to switch to heated oxygen sensors
- Will not bolt up to you existing cat
- Less ground clearance
Shorty Headers
- Easier to install than long tubes
- Cheaper in many cases
- Sometimes you can use your existing cat
- No fabrication or lifting the engine to install
- No ground clearance issues

Re: which headers should i get?
I say spend the extra cash and get the Jet Hots and a Hooker Y-pipe. Depending on your exhaust they sound SO sweet. I had the jet hots, a hooker y pipe and a hooker catback on my 97 T/A and I couldnt have been happier with the way it sounded.

have u looked at pacesetter longtubes? i am getting pair this friday ( ceramic coated) to my door for 415$. i think that is a good deal. y-pipe is xtra 170$ though. but u could find someone to custom make u one for cheaper! good luck
