headers before tuning?!

i'm looking at installing my cam soon, i still need to pickup a csi waterpump and some lifters but i was thinking.

before i pay $300 to get my pcm tuned maybe i should take care of most everything that needs recalibrating.
so i'm buying some 50# injectors to make sure they're no problems there.

should i put some headers on before tuning? i was looking at the jet hot LT's since my car is dropped. but i was waiting for the y pipe to be done. plus the rest of the exhaust will have to be redone to accomodate the headers so i'm looking at close to $1000. this will majorly set back me getting my cam in.

so will the headers affect tuning much?

i also have to pickup some new O2's i know mine need replacing.
anyone know a good place to buy O2's from?

you dont need tuning for your headers, but did you say your car is lowered? then your probably dont want the Hooker LTs they are very low......
For the cam you are going to need to tune again...So if it were me, i would buy the Hooker LT's(or something else since its lowered, maybe midlengths), then i would finish all the exhaust.......then i would stick the cam in and then go get it tuned, because you will have to have some kind of tuning/chip to use the cam or it will run like ****......but it will crank and get you to the shop w/the cam and stock computer

to clarify i am getting the tune because of the cam. do i want to do headers first, it will really delay the cam install.

i said the jet hot LT's, they change the collector flange and i understand they work well under lowered cars, i would like the LT's for performance reasons.

i remember hearing the stock manifolds didn't cause any restrictions up to around 400hp right?! if thats' the case then the manifolds really shouldn't affect the tuning.

i was thinking of doing the headers down the road when i add my nitrous or supercharger, probably supercharger, cause i'll have to pull the motor again to do forged internals and more head work.

I disagree. If the stock manifolds aren't a restriction, people wouldn't be picking up 20 - 30 rwhp from headers alone on a bolt on car. IMO the stock manifolds are definitely a restriction.

I definitly agree with evilbox. And i think whoever told you jet hot LTs had more clearance was talking out their A$$. call Jet Hot, i did because i have a lowered car and heard that same rumor. I went with SLP midlengths.

Seeing as no one has answered yet- YES, wait til after the install.

Adding a header will alter your a ton of things, therefore you might as well wait.

would'nt you say that he would NEED the headers BEFORE the cam though, i mean of course you can DO what ever you want and get by with it, but its the right thing to do, it would really open it up, kinda like put n20/blower on a car with stock exhaust in intake, you CAN do it, but most people would'nt want tooo

Dont get me wrong though- feel free to throw headers on ASAP!
But tune after your first couple steps are done.
