headers

Whats the best bang for the buck in headers? This would be for a 1995 z-28 with 1 convertor and a y pipe, are the MAC the best deal going?

If you can stand to save up for a little and get Hookers!!! you wont be sorry. On the other hand... Mac's are the very best bang for the buck!

Get a set of used SLP stainless midlengths. I got some on this board for $335. Those headers and Y-pipe + a straight pipe in place of the cat = ownage.

I guess you could get long tubes, but these SLPs will give you almost as much power for less money and trouble.

Make sure you get the headers coated, or you'll be sorry. I have TPIS headers, and they work great. I've never had a leak, and I got a good increase for shorties. I got them for $275 and they were only used for 2500 miles or so.

about the coating...

Why does everyone have some warning about getting their headers coated? I understand it keeps the bay temp down, but how much hotter can it be than the stock headers??? I've actually heard a lot of people complain about the coating coming off, and that it was pretty much a waste of $$$, just curious before i buy my headers

If you're in the market for coated headers, you may want to consider Jet-Hot coated MAC headers. They are mid-lengths and seem to make good power. Jet-Hot is selling them in the GP section. The coated headers, y-pipe, and off-road pipe shipped are going to be close to $70 cheaper than AS&M headers(not including shipping).
Hope this helps
