Re: header stud bolts that ACTUALLY stay tight

A friend and I installed 1" Breslins for both our header installs. Not 1 leak, not one bolt has needed tightening up. The only thing was that they were 12 points so you had to get a 12 point socket to tighten most of them and use a box end wrench to get the rest.
They worked great for us

I think one bolt I had to grind my closed wrench to make a custom open wrench and it worked great.
I made an open end 12 pt wrench also. I have studs & 12 pt nuts and I bought some Craftsmans 12 pt wrenches and thinned one out and open ended the other. They work great. Sometimes making yur own tools is the answer.

I use Felpro header gaskets and the bolts that came with my jet-hot headers, I haven't had any problems yet.

well to keep this thread alive,

I think i'm going to order the 1" arp bolts (anybody know a part # or the best place to get them?) and either earl's gaskets or the fel-pro's (again, any one know #'s or places to get them?)

Summit has the earl's gaskets. You want the D port gaskets.
They work really well

Re: header stud bolts that ACTUALLY stay tight

on my drivers side the breslins bolts backed out and ended up blowing up a percys dead soft aluminum gasket just reciently. And needless to say I think breslins is overrated now. Yes they are good dont get me wrong, but they are not a mirricle cure.

I saw header bolts somewhere, that were drilled for use with safety wire. Tighten the bolts, run steel safety wire through them, twist the wire and 100% end the problem.
Aircraft bolts and cannon plugs are held tight in this manner.

Bud M has the right idea, I used Mr Gaskets for a while and had to keep tightening, then I switched to the Earls and the bolts never come loose.

Re: header stud bolts that ACTUALLY stay tight

I have the Earls header gaskets on my L98 and they are great. I'm missing a header bolt on number 8 cylinder and they still don't leak. Going to be installing and upgraded motor soon and will be using the Breslin header bolts and the Earls gaskets. Should not have any leaks or bolts comming loose.

I've been happy with stage 8 lockers and GM gaskets.

The better question is how to get the slipjoint on hooker LTs to seal?
