header question?
header question?
I eventually plan on getting jet-hot long tube headers with a hooker y pipe.
i am somewhat new to the header install aspect so i was wondering what the k-member is. i have heard some people that had to take it off to fit the header. is it apart of the frame or suspension.
also with the y pipe and everything. can i still use a cat and a f-bod catback system or does the catback need to be different with the long tubes added?
also if i have a cat. do i have to fix or move anything to accomidate for the cat.
sorry for my ignorance on the topic. i did a search and never really had anything technically explained about these apects from what i saw.

The k member is the frame that the engine attaches to as well as the A arms. You don't have to remove that for headder install. As for the y pipe, the hooker will bolt right up to your cat back, but will eliminate the cats. If you really want them, you will have to get a custom Y pipe.
thanks for the info.
i thought that the k-member had to part of the frame. i have one of those haynes manuals and i was looking for k-member for a while and couldn't find it
i also somewhat figured out that i wouldn't be able to have cat/s with that particular y-pipe.
just an extra question then. is the car stupid loud with out the cat, and how hard to pass inspection then? i live in Buffalo, NY

If you have any kind of inspection (visual or sniffer) there is no way to pass without a cat. (unless you pay him $50 under the table to pass you) LT's will make the car louder, !cat will make the car louder. I had to change mufflers when I did my install. I had a flowmaster, and it sounded like nascar.
