Header leak...?

My MAC header install is just about complete. Only have a little while each day hasn't made it a cinch. The problem I have now run into is a massive leak on the middle section of the driver side. I have tightened down the two bolts with no improvment. ANy suggestions? Also how much did everyone else have to cut off the supplied cat flange? Thanks!

The copper ones and the bolts that came with them. And the pass side isn't leaking at all from what I can tell.

I just tried the copper ones on a friends 72 camaro...leaked like crazy...bought some good Fel Pros with the metal core and no more leaks...I have since heard of horror stories when using the copper....

I had to take the copper gaskets off as well.

I bought the Mr Gasket Ultraseal's for the LT1 from Autozone for about $20. VERY similar design as the Felpro 1406 and has sealed up GREAT.

Well at least I know my next direction. Will I be able to get the gaskets out with the headers still bolted to the y pipe? Did anyone else have the same leak as well? I've heard it's a common area.

You will have to loosen the two bolts on the y-pipe to collector connection. Easy to do though.

I use felpro gaskets with permatex ultra cooper on either side of the gasket. If your flange is warped bad you might need to get it machined.

I only remove the bolts that held the header against the head, leaving the one on each end.

Pulled the copper out (made my car sound like a tanker), and dropped the felpro in. It has hooks that catch onto the two outer bolts. Then i bolted everything back down.
