Does anybody have a JET HOT LT header installation............ Going to attempt to put my brand new headers on my 96 Z28, this weekend......... With all you guys with headers I'm sure atleast half of you documented it....... Or followed a step-bystep guide....

 

There's a pretty good write-up out there somewhere... I just guessed and assumed when I did mine.

 

Its pretty easy, and its pretty straight forward. Take off your y-pipe, manifolds, remove your plugs and wires, oil dipstick, and starter. Driver side goes right in (mine did). Passenger side I unbolted the motor mount and jacked up the engine. From pics I've seen, it looks like an easier job if you have an automatic trans. I did mine by myself. I didn't even jack up the rear of the car, just set the e-brake and jacked the front end frighteningly high in the air Just take your time and think things through and you'll be fine. Also, wrap your headers in an old bath towel to keep them from getting all scratched. You can safety pin the towel together through the bolt holes in the flanges. HTH

Man, I'm making a ton of website plugs today. Does nobody else save interesting or usefull pages?

 

has everyone with jet hots been having the same problems with installation as the guy did in the link above?

 

there's nothing easy about installing longtubes on these cars. it's gonna be a hassle and a half at the least, and jet hots arent known for going in easy. you better have some good help and lots of tools, search for the endless number of threads on here about it.

get some mechanics gloves...trust me. the hardest part is gettting off the old manifolds IMO, after that its just a matter of taking your time and putting the headers on

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL THE TOOLS YOU NEED! it was horrible having to go back and forth (when a car was even available) to get tools.

find the torque specs for the header bolts, and use them, they come loose! When I picke dup my car, it had 4 loose, and i could tighten them with my fingers.

 

It will be hard to get a torque wrench on most of those bolts. Just tighten them as tight as possible. But, after the headers are in, you have to keep checking the bolts. Heat cycle them a few times in teh garage, then tighten them, then take it out for a short drive, and tighten them again. If you only tighten them once, they'll come out, and that's the reason your bolts were loose.
