Header gasket and bolts

Gonna have to redo my header gaskets soon, and need to know, will the locking bolts from Thunderracing, keep me from having to tighten them? And any thoughts on the best gaskets to use? What about Flow techs aluminum exhaust gaskets, there supposed to seal really well.

I've been using the ARP stainless header bolts for a few years now. If I remove and reinstall a header, I do have to tighten them a bit one more time after a heat cycle, then they're good to go. They're pretty cheap and work great.

I've seen some people on here complain about lack of space for the locking bits of the Stage 8's near certain primaries (I don't recall which), but some have no problems. Probably those with MAC's or another 1 5/8" header.

I don't know about the aluminum header gaskets, but I have tried the ones for the collector to y-pipe. Both sides blew out within a month. I've since switched to Mr Gasket ultra seal collector gaskets and have had no problems. For the headers, I'm using Felpro's. Also no problems.

Hope some of this rambling helps

Well I have had my headers on since last june and I have had no problems. I use stage 8 bolts which I have had to only tighten once, and I also use percy's dead soft gaskets

I'd say either Mr. Gasket Ultraseals, or Felpro 1406's for the header gasket. They are similar in design.

For the bolts, I just used the ones that came with my MAC's. I tightened them twice, and they are staying put.

I would recommend the Breslin spitlocks instead of the Stage 8's, if you want a locking bolt.

I prefer the 1" normal header bolts myself. Cheaper, and work good.
