header bolts......breslin owns stage8!!!

after becoming seriously annoyed with the stage8's, i went to the local performance shop and picked up a set of breslins. they were $45 for the 3/4" and $50 for the 1".

i think i paid $29 for my stage8's awhile back.........i would easily pay that extra $15-20 for the breslins to avoid all the annoyances of the stage8's.

advantages
-wrenches fit on the breslins much easier
-they dont strip easy like stage8's do
-the locking design will work on every bolt, and is easy to use.

the breslin's would be nice but i don't like the 12 pt design on the heads. I don't really have any problems with my stage 8's. I definitely haven't had any strip on me.

the 12 point design is one of the main reasons i like them.......no chance of stripping..........my stage8's stripped on both the regular head, and the allen part.......i mean, im pretty strong, but not superman strong......theres no reason they should strip like they did.

not to mention the breslin head is smaller, therefore making it easier to fit a closed wrench on it when you have large header primaries.

I paid $80.00 for my Breslin maybe because there stainless? Anyway worth every penny stock jethot gaskets no leaks been about 4 months. they are 12 piont so you can regrip with the wrench and not hit something. I did have to grind one of my snap-on wrenches to get on one bolt probably the header design

Oh you mean round off. I usually associate stripped to the threads. I still haven't had any problems with rounding off. The bad thing about 12pts is if you cant get a socket on there or a box end your in trouble because you can't put an open end on the bolt.

yeah, round off is what i meant for the outside, and then the inside allen key part stripped. (using proper sized tools).

for the ones that i couldnt fit a 12 point socket on, i took a 12pt closed end wrench and ground the outside of it slightly so it was as thin as possible without cracking, and didnt have a problem on any of the bolts.

with the stage 8's they were so large, regardless of open or closed end, i couldnt get a wrench on some of them properly and had to use the allen key, which in turn kept stripping when i applied too much force.

its still rounding off the allen head, not stripping.

you should have no problems tightening them using the right tools inserted FULLY. My stage 8's locks and everything went on very easy.

I am definately using them, that is a flawless design and they have won various engineering awards. They are sweet bolts!

stripping, round off....you get the point.
and the allen key was inserted fully, the metal rounded off right to the base..........the bolt material just wasnt strong enough. (either that or i have super powers)

and stage8's lock design has changed now because they realized the first design was stupid and didnt always work depending on where the bolt finished tightening.

My stage 8's were a pain in the ***.. Today I switched them over to some arp 3/8" 12 pt's and they were SO much easier to work with. I could actulaly fit sockets and closed end wrenches around them with ease. I was able to fix my exhaust leaks that I had and my car runs beautifully now.

I left the stage 8's on in a couple places due to the design on the headers, but 6 out of the 9 i took off were at least somewhat rounded and you could almost freely spin the wrench on the heads. I considered the breslins but these arp bolts were only 15 dollars

Either way you shouldnt round something off if you have the right tool on the bolt properly.

I dont see how you guys have so much trouble with these stage 8. Just trim the retainers down and put em on.
