header bolt question

Will header bolts for any SBC work on the LT1 or do they need to be Lt1 specific?

They will work. Any sbc bolt will work. Just compare the new one to the old one to see if they are differnt.

does ARP make locking header bolts?

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but how do you guys tighten up the header bolts on the #8 cylinder???

I mangage to get in there with a 7/16 box wrench, you can only get a little turn on it and it takes forever but it works.

That's what I was using, but after a full rotation on the firewall side of the #8 primary, it wouldn't hook on again.

I couldn't even get a boxed end wrench on any of my bolts. I had to grind down a wrench to make it fit.

i used the breslin bolts and they worked awesome. i had to grind down a few different shape wrenches to get them to fit next to the primary but with a lot of patience we got them in.

The very back one on the passenger side? I went at it from the top... I used a shallow 9/16 socket and a flexable ratchet. Wasn't too bad.

i had the exact same problem. U need a stubby wrench. I got breslin bolts, which work with a 3/8" donut hole, but the donut hole cant get around the bit because it bumps into the header

I couldn't even tread the bolt in, so i left it out hoping for no leaks. I was lucky enough not to have one when i turned it on.

Any bolts will work.. I never use locking bolts and i havent had a problem.. I use the ARP 3/8 bolts.. those are what i use on everyones headers i put on.. no ones had a problem come to think of it, and you can get a small 3/8 deep socket on almost all of them and tighten them down very well.. the rest i use a normal 3/8 open end wrench..

other than 1" long vs 3/4", how are the arps any different than the regular header bolts? No matter how many times i tightened the regular ones and what protocol I followed, they kept coming loose, and so i bought the locking ones

Its not the length.. Its the heads on the arps.. they are alot smaller allowing sockets or wrenches to clear the primarys.. I use loctite and tighten them all.. i havent had a problem..
