Head work on stock heads!!

How much money would it average cost me if i was going to have my stock LT1 heads done where they were sufficient for a HotCam or cc305-cc306?

I feel that when it comes to heads you do get what you pay for. You could the heads done for 6 or 700 bucks but they will suck, or spend big money 2000 or more and get some sweet heads. I think this is where the AFR heads are around and those are really damn good. you could probably get away with just getting a valve job done and get cam matched to that to get the most with your budget. If you have alot get it done right and have the cam to boot but high flow equals high money.

Aftermarket heads go from 12000- too much. What was said before ''you will get what you pay for". If you go buy some AFR LT4 195 cc heads and throw in the 306 you will make good numbers(400rwhp+). That is going to cost 3-4k for the them. If you go with porting you stock heads and throwing in some new vavles for 12-1300 from L.E. your not going to make the same kind of numbers. But you still will be happier than if you went with a 500 clean up. Heads are very important, they are why LS1's hand us are *** at third gear and up.

Making 557 FWHP on stock ported heads. You don't have to spend a large amount of money on AFRs to make HP. Give this guy a call and he will port you some good flowing heads.LT1 DAVE

Yep, you get what you pay for (to a degree) in this area. You want to spend $200 you'll get a $200 port job With that being said though, there are a couple guys on this board who charge a very reasonable price for very good heads.

The LT1 heads on my 1996SS cost $1799 for JUST the port job... that didn't include the heads. That might sound expensive but my car ran 115 mph in the 1/4 mile and has dyno'd 399 rwhp. That's not all that impressive until you consider I have just a HOT cam and regular headers (not long tubes). With just a HOT cam and regular headers, those heads are working pretty darn good to get those kinds of numbers

I paid $650 for the port work & combustion chambers and extremely happy with my LT1 heads. I'm just breaking in my motor on a mail order tune. At 5lbs. boost I'm at 500 fwhp and the same torque and after I pulley up to 10lbs and get a dyno tune I hope to be putting down around 600rwhp. You can spend a lot on aftermarket heads but you can also make quite a bit of HP with the stock ones.

Is he in the Cincinnati area? I think someone gave me his sticker when I was out for the Trans Am Nationals. Does he also do computer and chip work?

Thanks

In the Cincinnati area, I suggest http://www.ts-performance.com

I have worked in conjunction with him on many cars now and have to admit that he is one of the best. His heads are awesome, along with his tuning. If anyone from this board wants prices, tell him Shannon sent you. Best thing is, he never charges you an arm and a leg

You can also go with www.advancedinduction.com Either way, your running with winners

I have heard that Lloyd Elliot can get numbers that are very close to AFR heads for way, waaaaay less. Have heard only good things about him and corresponded with him some. He seems very knowledgeable and has an excellent reputation.

This is what I have heard. I know of some people with nothing more than a mild cam and small headers making 375 - 385 RWHP with his heads, that's got to say something.

BTW, he is "nightrain66"

Im getting my stock heads ported in jan. of 04. Its a full port job, valve job, and bowl blending for about $5-600. Its also a buddy kinda doing me a favor. I should be around 370-380 RWHP with my setup and heads. Cant wait.

Got mine done for 500$ by Buck's Racing, King, North Carolina. That was all new springs, locks, valves, but not bigger valves. I just gt a very well done port and polish. Charley is very well known in the drag racing circuit. He has built several engines for pro mods and pro stock cars and the majority is running his engines.
