Head work?

I'm getting more and more people telling me I need my heads done but I wanted to know if it was really worth it all. It's a bit pricey for a port and polish job. A good one so I was just wondering if it's worth it. Also how do you know what size to do or do you just let the shop do what they think is best? Another thing is that they say my cam is too big to not have head work and it's just too big of a cam all together. Do you guys think it's too much? Thanks for all your help. I appreciate it very much.

Re: Head work?

Advanced Induction is doing magnificent things with stock casting LT1 heads. I am running a set of their run-of-the-mill 200cc ported stock castings on my 383 with great results (in sig). The best part about their package is it comes with a custom grind camshaft tailored to your goals. It is not uncommon to see 410+whp on a stock bottom end/T56 with a set of their heads.

The cam being "too big" is really relative. Some say yes, others say no. I say don't worry about it because you're going to be replacing it.

Or if their prices are too high, Lloyd Elliot ports stock stuff too, but it's hand-porting. AI is CNC'd for a consistent port every time.
