Head porting

How much does it typically cost to port and polish heads. I'm guessing it's cheaper than buying aftermarket heads.

Thanks! Would you suggest porting for a cam, or could I go ahead and port them now?

Cool

I think Lloyd charges $400 just for p&p.
I'm assuming that would be if you sent him bare heads. He quoted me $700 to dissasemble, clean, port the heads, do a valve job and reassemble with new springs.

You'll see gains by getting them ported before a cam but you won't see as much as you'll think. A cam will net you more gains at this point than heads will. Once you get a cam, it's a whole different story. I would recommend porting for a cam, or getting a cam custom ground for your heads. Either way you'll get the full potential out of the combo. All I've ever heard is to do a cam first then heads. Though both work the best together, the cam nets you more hp/tq without heads than heads net you without a cam.

How much HP do you think that Lloyd's heads can support?

Lloyds heads are good pieces of work. Many guys here average around 380-400rwhp 350-370 rwtq here on the board w/ stock bottom ends. Numbers will vary with the car, milage and setup. That and the price he does such good work for is why he is getting my heads for certain.
