head port sizes

After looking at a lot of head porters it seems that there port sizes differ but the flow numbers are still very close so my question would be does that extra port volume matter. If I can get good flow from 190-200cc why would there be any need to go higher.

Also note this thread is not specific to any porter so lets not turn this into a flame war about whos better just looking for good answers.

It all depends on your whole combination. If you are building a 355 with an LT4 hot cam then a 190cc runner would be about the biggest you would want (like in your listed combo). If you are building a 383 with a solid roller and a good intake then you would want a much bigger runner, 210-220cc or so. Usable RPM range, peak hp RPM, weight of the vehicle, gearing, tranny, etc all have to do with how the car will run down the track with a bigger or smaller runner size. A bigger runner may produce a higher peak hp number but be slower down the track. Again, it is all about the whole combination.
