The cam is a cork in the system before the heads. The stock cam is also so small you can upgrade it quite a bit before you compromise drivability atall.

I've got a head gasket to change out here in a few months, plan on porting the heads and intake while they are off. I'm expecting at least 335 rwhp or more with full bolt ons and 1.7 RR, which seems to be bolt on LT4 territory. Probably going with LE1 heads to keep costs down and get the car on the road sooner, unless i come upon some unexpected funds then I'll get the LE2 job. My only reason for not doing a cam as well right now is the 150k I just hit on the engine, and hoping to put off a rebuild for a few more years, so no cam so I don't risk spinning a bearing. If you are looking for a way for more power with lower miles, you'll probably gain more from a cam only install over a head only install. Plus it will sound a LOT better.

just get a cam that peaks sooner. people are spinning bearings because they are twisting thier motors to around 7k.ge something like a Hotcam or cc503.

Well i know alot of people on here do not agree, but i ported my own heads and noticed a big difference in power even with the stock cam,and i can tell you my port job would be no where near as good as a LE1 head.
