Head locator dowel pins...misaligned?

I'm trying to finish putting this motor together and I've run into a problem. Searched but didn't find any clear answers.

I have one head on and had no issues with it. The head slid right onto the dowel pin locators fine. I went to put the second head on and it won't go. Each pin will go in their respective holes individually, but not together. I've taken a rubber mallet and gently tapped and got nothing. I tried tapping on the dowels themselves but they didn't budge.

The head in question slides down smoothly onto the old block (bought a used block off the board and had it decked and cleaned up). So what are my options to make this thing work?

Thanks,
Kyle

Also it fits on the other block, so that wouldn't make much sense to me, unless the warped head somehow messed up the pins in the other block.

Hmmm....

Is it too late to try the other head on that side of the block?

measure the thickness of the pins, then measure the holes in the head.

Get a true 90 degree angle and check the pins to see if they were installed straight.

Can you pull the pins out of the block? Measure how deep the holes in the head and the block, then measure the length of the dowel pins. Maybe they are bottoming out?

You might need to take the head or the block to a machine shop to have them fix it.

Yeah, I'm going to check the pin diameters and see if maybe they got smashed up or something. They can't be bottoming out because I can't even get them both to start to go in the holes (together at least). I'll try to do some more measuring.

Thanks!

Ended up being the right side pin had a ridge around the top of it. Seems like it was either pounded on or dropped on. I took a file and rounded it out flat and the head slid right on!

Well, that story had a nice ending. These are the kind of problems I like having; that is the ones with the simple and inexpensive solutions.

No joke! I was going to try to pull them out and get some more from the dealer but they didn't have any and it would take at least a day to get 'em. I hate waiting.

As it's going, I might get this thing in the car and running by Sunday!
