Head Gaskets + Heads

Well, the car has 130xxx miles and head gaskets finally decided to go. While I am already having the head gaskets replaces, along with re-machining the heads, cleaning out everything and replacing all gaskets and such. While I have everything out, is there anything that can be done (inexpensively) to the heads to give the car a boost in power? I am not too experienced with rebuilding engines and as you can see in the sig. the car in basically stock. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Not without spending some serious money, no. There isn't much you can do.

Although you COULD put on a thinner head gasket. That will give you a slight bump in compression and in turn maybe 2-3 HP.

Perfect Time to do Long Tube Headers though.....

And they make a HUGE difference.

Just not sure what your budget is like........

Remove the casting marks in the bowls and ports, a good 3 angle (racing) valve job, upgraded springs and use the Impala head gasket. Top it off with some roller rockers.

Great! Thanks for the suggestions.. Budgets a little low so headers are going to be a future project. I figured since the engines apart, might as well get it machined professionally.

Check Your Engine mounts too.

Wish I woulda remembered when I did my heads. They can be a serious pain to put in without Headers and not TOOOO bad with headers.
